本季回到家鄉公牛隊的韋德，道出暑假離開長年效力的熱火隊始末，熱火總管「油頭」萊里，雖然最後一刻開出兩年合約續留韋德，但兩人根本沒有見過面。
韋德以兩年四七五○萬美元合約，離開自二○○三年起效力的熱火。萊里僅開給韋德一張兩年兩千萬美元合約，而且沒有直接見面，還先續約了其他包含懷塞德在內的球員，讓韋德和經紀人大為光火，一氣之下回到家鄉芝加哥，還被芝加哥媒體形容是浪子「落葉歸根」。
韋德說：「我曾經在邁阿密十三年，很了解萊里，也看過很多球員來來去去，當然很清楚他的行事風格，如果你不是站在他那邊，就等於和他作對。我對於離開邁阿密沒有什麼意見，百分之百感覺一切正常。」
但昨天韋德也透露，從上季球季結束至今，雙方根本沒連絡過。他說：「我沒和他說過話，我對萊里充滿敬意，但我從上季結束後，就沒有和他說過話。」
而韋德更進一步指出，雖然夏天沒和萊里聯絡，但早和熱火其他所有高層都溝通過。今天他將首度回到邁阿密，轉戰公牛至今，韋德平均上場時間僅有廿八點九分鐘，攻下十七點九分和二點九助攻，效率並未衰退太多。
